Just eight days after the departure of its beloved giant panda Bao Bao, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo is embarking on producing new cubs.
The National Zoo was extremely crowded on a sunny Sunday with people coming to say goodbye to giant panda Bao Bao.
Bei Bei, the National Zoo’s giant panda cub who was named by two first ladies – Peng Liyuan of China and Michelle Obama of the US – will be ready to meet visitors on Jan 16, 2016.
This year, the National Zoo in Washington will be celebrating giant panda breeding season in a very special way. “This is the first time we’ve imported semen from China for panda breeding,” said Dennis Kelly, director of the zoo.
